Arma Diaboli

exhibition on crossbows and crossbowmen extended until the end of June

Location: National Museum’s new building, Vinohradská 1, 110 00, Praha 1

Where is the origin of the crossbow and why did it, at its own time, obtain the reputation of a contemptible or “diabolical” weapon? This and much more other questions will answer the exhibiton focused on medieval and early modern crossbows.

This exhibition will present a survey of the history of material culture, provide new research and shows a selection of the artifacts from the National museum collection including the loans from 25 other museums and institutions.

It will be divided into three main sections: military crossbow and the arms and armour of crossbowmen, hunting crossbow as a luxurious product of the Renaissance and early baroque artistic craftsmanship and shooting competitions and feasts.
