Music and Politics
exhibition in the National Memorial on Vítkov HillLocation: National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill, U Památníku 1900, Praha 3
The new National Museum exhibition, which will be opened in the National Memorial on Vítkov Hill, presents through an ensemble of preserved artefacts, audio and audio visual recordings various links between music and politics in the Czech lands starting from the Revolutions of 1848 to the present.
Music is shown both as an instrument of political power and as a form of protest. The exhibition looks at the relationship between music, revolution and war, music at the service of propaganda, music as a statehood symbol, at repression against the music community and the role of music and celebrities in the contemporary political campaign.
The exhibition was created under the project Rok české hudby (Czech Music Year 2014).
