On basis of an invitation made public on Czech television (Česká televize) in April to June 2008, the National Museum acquired nearly 2,500 photographs and negatives related to the theme of August 1968, Palach´s funeral, as well as events of August 1969. The photographs came from professional as well as amateur photographers. All pictures are of high informative and documentary value important for understanding of particular events and contemporary atmosphere. Some of the photographs are used on the exhibition panels of “….and there came tanks 1968”. From among the remaining photographs we have selected 31 photos of various authors showing the events ongoing in Prague and some other place on August 21, 1968.
