Those who outlived us
Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures, Betlémské nám. 1, Praha 1
The Exhibition commemorates the 185th anniversary of the birth of the famous patriot, politician and art patron Vojta Náprstek. In his house „U Halánků“, a large community of politicians, scientists, writers and explorers met regularly and organized political and cultural life in Prague.
Their obituaries, written reminiscences and photographs are the main sources of this exhibition. Vojta Náprstek was a keen collector of obituaries, knowing that they have great historical value.
Obituaries have a long history. They provide information about the deceased, and they illustrate modern printing technology as well as changing in aesthetic values.
The exhibition contains the exhibits that have not been exhibited yet, such as death masks, funeral ribbons and other funeral curiosities. After a long time, the urns with the asches of Mr and Mrs Náprstek who wished to remain in the museum even after their death will be displayed.
