  • The Department of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books

    The Department of Manuscripts and Early Printed Books cares for the most valuable collections of the National Museum Library. It is a collection of over 6,000 manuscripts, incunabula, old prints and two palace libraries - Nostitz and Kinský.   • Journals Department of the National Museum Library

    The Journals Department of the National Museum Library has a work area, Study Room and depository in the former summer palace of Royal Hunting Preserve, commonly called "zámeček ve Stromovce" (castle in the Tree Park). The castle is one of Prague's unique memorial structures, noteworthy for its architecture, history and placement. The Journal Department, along with its collection of newspapers and magazines moved here in 1946, from the main museum palace on Wenceslas Square.  Více informací…

  • Chateau Library Department

    The Chateau Library Department was set up in 1954 and tasked with gathering information about chateau libraries in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, ensuring their continued functioning and making them accessible to researchers. The libraries are the property of various institutions: the National Museum, the National Heritage Institution, various archives, museums and even private individuals. All loans and other business are done through the National Museum Library.   • Book Culture Department

    The idea to form a separate department dealing with book culture, tasked primarily with collecting non-book items from the 19th and 20th centuries, came up shortly after founding the Book Museum in Žďár nad Sázavou in 1957. The initiator of the project was Dr. Miloslav Bohatec. The actual creation of the department took place in 1969, and the head of the new department was a long-time employee of the National Museum Library, Dr. Karel Bezděk.   • Library Service Department

    The Library Services Department of the National Museum Library was established in 1992, by extracting the Study Room and loan protocol from the Central Library Department and adding the photo-laboratory (today the digitalization lab). The National Museum Library is a publicly accessible attendance library and makes its volumes available only in its Study Rooms, in the museum's New building and the Central Depository II. in Terezín. Researchers may use the Study Rooms after paying a registration fee and showing identification. The Study Room in the New building has had only audited books available on request. For study of material housed in the Terezín depository, it is necessary to travel to Terezín. Main webpage of the Library

  • Department of International Publication Exchange

    This department concerns itself with the acquisition of professional literature. It was named after the most gainful method of acquiring such literature - so-called publication exchange. Professional publications for the central library and for professional libraries of the museum's various departments are acquired not only through exchanges, but also purchases and donations. The range of subject matter includes: history (including art), natural science (primarily taxonomic literature), librarian materials, bibliography (manuscripts, old prints, book culture) and museology.  Více informací…
