Contrasting Asian Cultures

lecture - in-depth look at the vast differences of Vietnamese and Japanese culture

Náprstek Museum of Asian, African and American Cultures, Betlémské nám. 1, Praha 1

The lecture/photo essay will provide an in-depth look at the vast differences of Vietnamese and Japanese culture.

By comparing two key cities, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and Kyoto, we can see how both conflicting internal and external influences have had divergent effects on both countries, and how the people have often struggled to maintain their traditions and cultural integrity.

While the people have chosen different political and economic directions, there is still an undeniable commonality that binds these two unique and stunning cultures. The photos shown in the lecture were previously part of a series featured in the Napa Gallery, Mala Strana.

The lecturer Adam Trachtman is an American traveler and photographer, director of LucidCircus, a Prague Film School teacher and contributor to various publications. He spends as much time as possible traveling the world with a sketchbook and camera.

Lecture starts at 6 PM

This lecture is English-friendly.
