Emphasis is placed on observing the exhibited animals, formulating what they are like, correctly naming the individual body parts, determining the colours or sizes, and subsequent comparisons
of the animals. The individual stops are structured as visits to the individual parts of the Ark. The needs of the animals are mentioned and subsequently interrelated with the needs of the people. The programme takes place in the exhibition and the students will use worksheets.

Pursuing animals all over the world

While travelling around the world, the students become acquainted with the individual zoogeographic regions, the characteristics of the vertebrates and the zoological collections, with reference to the role of the dominant species – man, changing the conditions in the individual world regions. These changes can be for the worse (extermination of species, reductions of populations and the overall species diversity, importation of species to new territories), but also for the better (national parks and protected areas, rescue breeding). The programme takes place in the exhibition and the students will use worksheets.

Targeting: Older primary school children (6th–9th year)
Duration: 90 min
Educational field: Natural science, Environmental education, Education of thinking in European and global context
Keywords: zoogeographic regions, animal, vertebrates, museum, man, biodiversity
Outputs – Students: realize the circumstances of men affecting the nature, become able to define, classify and describe a subphylum
of the vertebrates, understand the individual zoogeographic regions
Price: CZK 100/student, teacher free of charge
Number of students: max. 30 students

Versatile vertebrates

The students will learn about the vertebrates as one of the branches on the tree of life of the animals, about their past, present and survival chances of some species. The students individually define the zoogeographic regions and set up their characteristics. The theme is the man’s interest in nature, which is changing in time, the documentation of the animal realm by means of the museum exhibits; the discussion blocks lead the students to understand the meaning of creating the biological collections in the museums. The programme takes place in the exhibition and the students will use worksheets

Hunters, conservationists and museum people

Crossing the border between the natural sciences and the social sciences, the students become acquainted with the history of the relationship of man towards nature, its documentation and conservation, thus outlining the changes in the biological thinking. Not only the notions of the mythical Flood went through a revision, we also have to change our understanding of the classification of organisms. The discussion blocks lead the students to consider the options each of us has to protect the species diversity on the Planet Earth. Museum activities are introduced, as well as the realization of a natural science exhibition. The programme takes place in the exhibition and the students work with working sheets.

Targeting: Secondary schools
Duration: 90 min
Educational field: Biology, Environmental education, Education of thinking in European and global context
Keywords: nature, animal, man, conservation, thinking, museum
Outputs – Students: can determine the possible impact of the practical activities of people on the natural environment, distinguishe the relationship of man towards nature throughout the history, realize the significance of museums and their collections for the protection of memory and information
