2018–2019 GAČR
The second part of the project of a collected critical edition of Bedřich Smetana’s correspondence will bring, in its second volume, all of his correspondence (both sent and received) from 1863–1874 in original languages, in chronological order. The correspondence will be published in compliance with current internationally-applied publishing principles with detailed comments, including a critical apparatus, a bibliography and index of people and their works, institutions and Smetana’s works. It will include not only correspondence surviving in autographs, photocopies, copies and prints, but also information on letters currently missing, obtained by the research of other sources, surviving correspondence and literature. The edition will be completed with an introductory biographical study (in Czech, English and German) relating to the relevant stage of Smetana’s life and work, editorial interventions, and pictorial supplements. The project should be completed in the following years with the publishing of a further three volumes containing the rest of Smetana’s correspondence. The objective of the project is to make accessible all known correspondence of Bedřich Smetana from 1863–1874, in compliance with internationally applied standards, in the form of a critical edition provided with an introductory study, abstracts, comments, notes, and indexes (comp. vol. I, Prague 2016).
