Two assassin bugs, Ectomocoris cordiger Stål, 1867 and E. fenestratus (Klug, 1830) (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Peiratinae), are redescribed. Ectomocoris picturatus Distant, 1919, syn. nov., is treated as a junior synonym of E. cordiger, and Pirates adjunctus Walker, 1873 is confirmed as a synonym of that species. Ectomocoris costatus Miller, 1954, syn. nov., is treated as a junior synonym of E. fenestratus. Types of all four nominal species were examined, and lectotypes of E. cordiger, E. picturatus, E. fenestratus and P. adjunctus are designated. Habitus images of the type specimens, figures of the male genitalia and a distribution map are also provided. The occurrence of E. fenestratus in Uganda is confirmed.
