Diagnostic characters of the genus Rhysostethus Hsiao, 1973 are discussed, microptery is recorded for the first time in the genus, and a revised diagnosis of the genus is provided. The following new synonymy is proposed: Rhysostethus glabellus Hsiao, 1973 = Parascadra breuningi Kerzhner & Günther, 2004, syn. nov. The male genitalia of Rh. glabellus are described and illustrated, and the morphology and possible function of its unique fore leg are discussed.
