This bibliography provides literature sources and results of early research of the marmot (Marmota marmota) in the Nízke Tatry Mts. Autochthonous occurrence of this species is restricted to the Vysoké Tatry Mts. Two introduced marmot populations are found in the Nízke Tatry Mts. One population occurring in the eastern part of the mountin range (sites Kráľova Hoľa, Orlová and Bartková) was established from individuals coming from the Alps in the 19th century. Another population is situated in the central part of the Nízke Tatry Mts. (the Ďurková, Poľana, Dereše, Chopok, Konské, Ďumbier, and Štiavnica peaks). At present, the taxonomical status of these populations is unclear. We have found 95 documents or literary sources, both published (n=81) and unpublished (n=14), such as diploma theses, final scientific reports, documentation of nature conservation, and some notes. The bibliography covers the period between the year 1813 and the middle of 2008.
