A very serious problem in textile restoration is unstable coloring. It is often difficult to reveal, but its impact on the restoration of objects can be substantial and irreversible. One such example is a wedding dress from 1890, from the historical collections of the National Museum. The dress is made from fabric called changeant, with an iridescent effect, which warps thread which was dyed by yellow dye and having a high susceptibility to water. It causes deep yellow spots on the wedding dress and its localization doesn’t reveal anything about their origin. This article discusses the identification and study of the problematic yellow dye, its stability and method of bonding with textile fiber. In the second part, the article presents a technological process for the actual restoration of dresses.
