Since December 2012, the Bibliothèque de l’Institut de France has offered a provenance database including rare books and manuscripts. The records have been divided into four parts: the former owners, the mark of ownership, the book, and the photographs of the mark and its location. Finally, links to and from the database and catalogues allow a reconstruction of the collection as owned by a person or an institution. The page ‘Aide à la recherche’ (search assistance) is quite useful.
