The Přemyslids. A Ruling Dynasty and Its Age – Exhibition Guide

The Přemyslids. A Ruling Dynasty and Its Age – Exhibition Guide

The publication provides a basic overview of the exhibition of the same name, contains, among other things, the main exhibition texts and, with almost two hundred photographs, presents both a selection of exhibits and some immovable monuments connected with the Přemyslids. The book is conceived in the same way as the exhibition. The first chapter reflects its central space representing the Přemyslid dynasty, its rule over the country and the spiritual dimension connected with Czech saints. The second chapter discusses the Czech lands during the reign of the Přemyslid princes, the gradual Christianization of the country, the consolidation of princely power and the acquisition of the first royal ranks, as well as the beginnings of coins and the development of trade. The third part tells the story of the kings of the Přemyslid dynasty and the expansion of the Czech kingdom during their reign in the 13th century. At that time, our lands experienced an unprecedented economic boom, accompanied by the founding of cities and the construction of castles; the discovery of silver deposits allowed for political and territorial expansion. Although the Přemyslid dynasty died out in 1306, its legacy continued to develop in other dynasties ruling from the Czech royal throne. The final part of the exhibition and the publication commemorates this Přemyslid tradition.
