Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum Czech Republic. Volume I. The National Museum. Prague. Part 8. Ptolemaic Empire, Egypt and North Africa

The new volume of the Czech series of the worldwide edition Sylloge Nummorum Graecorum makes available another part of the collection of ancient coins of the Numismatic Department of the National Museum and presents the coinage of ancient Egypt. It consists of a total of 846 pieces, including 250 issues of the rulers of the Ptolemaic dynasty from Ptolemy I to Cleopatra VII, and a smaller number of coins representing other North African regions, including Zeugitana, Cyrenaica, Numidia, and Mauretania. However, the most numerous, with more than 500 pieces, are provincial coins minted in Alexandria during the Roman rule of Egypt. The publication thus loosely follows on from the catalogue of the Luboš Král Collection of Egyptian provincial coins, published in 2021 as part of the same series. The chronologically arranged catalogue is supplemented with both black-and-white photographs of coins in their real size and their enlargements in colour. The catalogue is expanded with a chapter devoted to measurements and the results of X-ray fluorescence analyses of selected coins.
