In 2022, one hundred years have passed since the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was established in the area of former Czechoslovakia. This exhibition aims to show the visitor the ideological basis behind the creation of the central memorial, the birth of the tradition of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and its establishment within Czechoslovak society and culture. The exhibition chronologically traces the gradual changes in the perception of this institutionalised form of memory of fallen soldiers and war heroes. It maps the process of the physical destruction of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier during the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, its subsequent post-war restoration and also does not neglect the present-day role of the Tomb in the context of the modern traditions of the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic. Through the exhibited period objects, you can discover the story of a unique and symbolic place that represents the honour, courage, patriotism and participation of Czechoslovak soldiers in both world wars.
