Visit an exhibition that presents the origins and activities of the Central Office of Folk Art Production and showcases items from the famous Krásná jizba shop network, as well as documentation of folk artistic creation.
The exhibition With the Code ÚLUV presents the origins and development of the Central Office of Folk Art Production (ÚLUV), founded in 1945 on the basis of a decree by President Edvard Beneš, and highlights its crucial role in preserving, supporting, and professionally interpreting folk art during the dynamically changing post-war period. It shows how the organization coped with political and economic changes after 1948, as well as how it succeeded—through cooperative principles—in preserving a number of traditional production techniques and motifs.
The exhibition introduces visitors to a wide range of products presented and sold in the Krásná jizba shops, from furniture and textiles to decorative and festive items, along with professional documentation focused on folk art, architecture, and traditional costume culture. It also includes examples of patterns, recipes, and techniques that demonstrate the breadth of ÚLUV’s activities.
The project was created in cooperation between the National Museum and the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm as part of the NAKI programme of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, and is complemented by an accompanying programme including workshops, lectures, and film screenings.
