The exhibition “Tinkers and Wireworks” will introduce the craft of tinkers, from its modest beginnings in Slovakia to the present.

It will show the life of travelling tinkers who journeyed from village to village, but it will also remind us that this was not the only way of tinker craft – instead of journeying, able wireworkers founded professional workshops and even factories, and they even managed to find employment on other continents. Although the old craft was gradually replaced by manufacturing, it has been preserved in its artistic form and has inspired many professional artists and enthusiasts.

A large part of the exhibition consists of rare items on loan from the museums of Žilina and Čadca. Besides historical exhibits, pieces by contemporary artists, headed by the master of folk art, Ľubomír Smržík, are on show.
